1. Pendant Lights
|
| Multiple pendants are single pendants hung together in a row. They are the most popular type of pendants for kitchen islands by far, and with good reason. There are so many different types, budgets, sizes & styles to choose from - ones that light the space below or provide an all around glow, small and minimal to bold and beautiful. |
2. Linear Pendant Lights
|
| Linear pendants are long, horizontal lights that spread an even light across the surface of the kitchen island or table. Linear pendants are a sophisticated way to light kitchen islands. There are many different types (see link below for some beautiful options). Linear pendants are effective and stylish. Perfect for when you don't want to obstruct views and want good task lighting on your kitchen island. |

3. Spot Lights
|
| Ceiling spot lights are small lights that mount on the surface of the ceiling and shines light downwards. There are many advantages to using spot lights instead of a pendant. Lower costs (usually), installation ease, easy to maintain, great lighting and unobstructed views. There are spot lights that are fixed and adjustable. Spot lights are the unsung hero for many lighting requirements and good ones will prevent glare. |
4. Ceiling Lights
|
| Ceiling lights are a great idea when you want generous, ambient lighting over your island without a pendant hanging down but you want a bit more of a feature than a spot light. There are a number of ceiling lights with varying heights and styles. Minimal, modern, traditional, chic ... Ceiling lights over kitchen islands are also great at providing general lighting for the whole kitchen. |
5. Recessed Downlights
6. Wall Lights (you'd be surprised)
|
| Wall lights are great over sinks and awkward ceilings with slopes and sky lights but they're also great for kitchen islands. Wall lights that have an articulated arm (an arm that bends) that you mount to one side of the island and swing the light around as you need it is very handy. Many of these types of wall lights come with thumbswitches, which means you can turn the light on without faffing with a wall switch. If you have a socket nearby, but not a cable in the wall, you can use a wall light with a plug as a lighting solution. |
7. Table Lamps (yes - table lamps on kitchen islands work!)
