Kitchen Lighting - Linear Pendants For Islands

Kitchen Lighting - Linear Pendants For Islands

Linear pendants are one of the best ways to light a kitchen island. They hang parallel to the work top, coating it with even, glare-free light. Check out this list of 12 linear pendants with inspiring photos and informative points.

There are more styles than you might think - from minimal and sleek to objects of beauty. One of the most important things to consider when choosing a linear light is how it mounts - make sure your electrician puts the cable in the right place.

1. NL 12 Linear Pendant

The NL 12 is made of glass tubes bundled around a hidden LED light source, producing a deep, generous, glare-free glow. The slim black hoops holding the tubes together are inspired by gymnastic rings — quiet strength, perfectly poised. The hoops also conduct the electricity, keeping all the wiring completely out of sight. The glass tubes are adjustable too, so you can slide them into a staggered effect or line them up neatly.

2. Across Linear Pendant

The Across is aptly named — its two arms angle independently to find mounting points on tricky ceilings or walls, making it a brilliant solution when beams or skylights get in the way. The lower bar houses a powerful (3000+ lumens), dimmable light source. Available in two lengths and four colours — Black, White, Green, or Blue — with a choice of white or black canopy.

3. Compendium Linear Pendant

One of my personal favourites. The Compendium is flexible, adjustable, glare-free, well-priced, and neutral enough to work in almost any kitchen. It comes in one length (157 cm) but a clever join kit lets you link two together for longer spans. Available in Black, Brass, or Aluminium, with a choice of 2700K or 3000K. The canopy can be recessed for a clean ceiling finish.

4. Tube Bulb Horizontal Pendant

A combination of art and light. The Tube Bulb Horizontal houses a curved internal diffuser (in gold or chrome) that casts concentrated reflected light downward, while optional pleated mesh shades tame glare and add individual points of beauty — like miniature lampshades inside your linear light. Available in several lengths. Designed and made in Paris.

5. Aluet Linear Pendant

A refreshing change from the all-metal options on the market. The Aluet in Ash Wood is beautiful, practical, and easy to keep clean. It comes in two versions — indirect light only, or indirect combined with direct for task work — both dimmable and glare-free. The brown fabric straps are in keeping with the wooden aesthetic. Units can be combined for a longer span.

6. Gallery Linear Pendant

The Gallery is a gem for spaces where every detail matters. Handmade to high standards, it's deceptively simple — slim straight cables, a deliciously curved convex join, and a clean tubular body. Length can be extended seamlessly via a magnetic system. Available in tumbled brass or patina brass, with surface or recessed canopy options.

7. Highline Linear Pendant in Brass

A global design icon, and for good reason. The Highline in brass is long, thin, and elegant — it never shouts. Made from natural, living materials (brass and walnut) that age beautifully over time. You can even choose the cable finish.

8. Highline Linear Pendant in Black

So good it deserves a second mention. The Highline in black shares the same refined body and optional walnut end caps as the brass version, but makes a more modern, architectural impression. If you see a pendant you love but want it in a different finish, give me a call — there are often more options than the listing suggests.

9. Morse Linear Pendant

Named after Morse code, the Morse lets you swivel individual spotlights to direct light exactly where you want it. Point one upward to cast a warm glow onto the ceiling; angle others down for task lighting. The simple black tube body can be joined with additional units for longer spans, and suits a wide range of interior styles.

10. Aro Linear Pendant

The Aro lets you rotate each individual shade independently. The single long arm adds a strong design detail, and the shorter overall length makes it a great option for smaller kitchen islands. Available with surface or recessed canopy.

11. Org Linear Pendant

The Org fully embraces glamour. Long tubes of light with gold end caps at staggered lengths create an artful, sculptural effect, while simple cables keep the focus on the centrepiece. A matching wall light is available for the full effect. Comes in three lengths. Designed and made in Paris.

12. Moby Linear Pendant

A personal favourite. The Moby is as much sculpture as it is light. The shade is handmade fibreglass with a rough edge and generous, sensuous curves — the tip can hang straight or at an angle for added design flexibility. It cuts through a space with grace and character. Available in two sizes.
